Chuck Mize - Director, Enterprise Application Support, Sam Houston State University

Chuck serves as Director of Enterprise Application Support within the Division of Information Technology, and Faculty of Management Information Systems within the College of Business Administration at Sam Houston State University.

Abstract - Download Presentation

Higher Education institutions are constantly being asked to provide data, both internally and externally, for decision making and research. As such, the term “integration” is often used as if it requires no real thought at all. Ellucian Ethos was developed to simplify some of the complexity of data integrations between campus information systems. As Ethos has continued to mature, the platform has expanded its ability to provide on-demand, real-time data to a host of custom and third-party software products. But what does one need to know to successfully leverage the power of the Ethos platform to meet institutional needs? Should all future integrations utilize the Ethos platform or are there situations that warrant a more traditional approach?

This session will provide lessons learned from the implementation of early, and more recent third-party products through the Ellucian Ethos platform. The session will also share experiences using Ethos APIs to solve in-house data integration needs. The session will be geared towards providing functional and technical decision-makers guidelines for achieving headache-free integrations through Ellucian Ethos. By attending this session, participants will be better prepared to discuss campus needs with a variety of vendors, participate in successful integration projects, reduce potential risks, and better provide for the needs of their campus community.

Abstract - Download Presentation

When universities receive new appropriations, tables developed by TCC must be set up in Banner that allow documents to flow to USAS. Many of these tables use the same information, so it must be entered multiple times. If a table is missed or data entered incorrectly, documents uploading to USAS will have missing or incorrect information. Our accounting team manually set up 10 Banner tables until converting the process to a Dynamic Form which allows us to shorten the process and reduce the possibility that errors are made. The form we have created links common fields together so data elements only need to be entered once and they are fed to each appropriate field. Dynamic Forms allows for customizable layouts, control over users & approvers, and maintains a record of submitted & completed forms.

Learning Objectives
  • Demonstrate procedure to set up TCC appropriation tables in Banner
  • Demonstrate procedure to set up TCC appropriation tables with Dynamic Form
  • Discuss the set up of the dynamic form, issues we ran into and work arounds

Abstract - Download Presentation

It’s no longer about in-person vs remote classrooms, but what will most advance both the students’ success and your institution’s viability. To be successful, you must be able to quickly pivot to new types of students, opportunities and situations. You must apply tools and analytics that provide enrollment “stickiness”. What are key factors you should consider when selecting how your dollars are spent, especially when it comes to technology?

Listen as we present several higher education customer stories - shining light on how each evaluated and/or migrated to a campuswide e-forms, automated workflow and content management solution to support their efficiency and growth initiatives, even during the pandemic! We’ll also show how these institutions are using integrations with their ERP, SIS and other key software, to further optimize their processes and eliminate errors.
